Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves. What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. What are linehaul charges? These are basic charges for long distance move that are calculated by the weight of your shipment and total mileage. What is expedited service? You pay a higher rate so your movers can transfer your household or business goods on a specified date. Should I disassemble my furniture before the move? You can do this if you have time, but it’s not required. If your movers need to dismantle any furniture, they will reassemble it in your new home. Should my movers pack my breakables? We recommend letting professional movers pack breakable items because most insurance providers will only cover the cost of damage done to breakable items that have been packed by a professional moving company. Can I schedule a move even if my home is currently under construction? You can, but we highly recommend that you wait until your home is completely finished. Construction can increase the timeframe and possibility of damage on moving day. Do I have to empty all of my filing cabinets? Metal filing cabinets with 2-drawers can be left full, but you should empty the top 2 drawers of a 4-drawer cabinet. You should also completely empty all lateral file cabinets and all drawers of a wood cabinet. What is a transportation surcharge? This is an extra fee charged when the pickup or destination locations are very remote which results in less return weight for the moving company. Should I store items that won’t fit in my new home? ?You can choose to store items that won’t fit. However, if you have items that are old or have little value, you may be better to sell or donate them instead of paying the high cost of storing them for a long period. ? What is a local move?
